Opening on Thursday May 31, 6-8 pm, photographers Dan Larkin and Jane Paradise bring their camera’s steadfast yet compassionate eye to their exhibit The Cape’s Tip: Images of the Outer Cape. Their photographs capture the spirit and quiet beauty of the outer Cape, the landscape that they have called home. Their ability to capture a moment in the life of the outer cape informs all of the pieces in this exhibit.
We hope you’ll join us to enjoy the images and to meet and visit with Dan and Jane.
A quick reminder that our second Salon Night is tomorrow, Thursday May 17, 6-8, here at The Gallery UPSTAIRS. These nights are a great way to expand your photographic experience and connect with other photographers who share a common desire to explore their own imagery.
NEW DATE – Thursday, April 12, 6:00 PM: Salon Nights at The Gallery UPSTAIRS will begin. This program is for photographers who are looking for an alternative to the typical photography club. Salon Nights are an opportunity for a group of like-minded photographers to have open discussion and critique of their work. If you’re interested in attending Salon Nights, please let us know by emailing gallery@bobkornimaging.com or calling 508-255-5202.
There are a lot of events on the calendar for the end of March and April which I hope you’ll be able to attend.
Saturday, March 31st: The Gallery UPSTAIRS will be hosting a Gallery Talk with Rowland Scherman and Justin Garvin. Our current show, TRAVELIN’: Images from US 11, consists of photographs from both Rowland and Justin’s personal projects documenting this iconic highway. A preview of TRAVELIN’ is available on the Gallery Page.
Thursday, April 5th: I’ll be at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod for an evening entitled Photography; The Good and the Bad. What should be a lively discussion, it isn’t about good or bad photographs, it’s more about good or bad processes.
Saturday, April 14th: Also at the Cultural Center I’ll be having a one-day workshop, Intro to Digital Printing. Digital printing is not as simple as buying the equipment and pushing the button. This one day intensive class is for those who have pushed that button or those who may. You’ll learn a simple “work-flow” to get you going, and participate in a discussion of where you go from here.
Thursday, April 19: Salon Nights at The Gallery UPSTAIRS will begin. This program is for photographers who are looking for an alternative to the typical photography club. Salon Nights are an opportunity for a group of like-minded photographers to have open discussion and critique of their work. Papers, so many choices, what to do? My answer is to keep it simple. As as far as I’m concerned there are two basic choices, matte or gloss, with matte being mine. The idea that certain papers will yield better color, contrast, etc., has more to do with marketing than anything else. Yes there are differences, but it’s not the paper that makes the print; this or that, it’s the printmaker. I offer prints on a few different papers from a few different manufacturer’s, not because one is better than another, it’s because they have specific qualities. For example, Cotton Rag is the most archival (160 to 200 years), but also the most delicate. Baryta is a fiber base, gloss paper, which has the look and feel of traditional silver papers. Pulp which is made with some wood instead of all cotton, is still archival (80 to 120 years) yet very economical. Canvas is a choice for some. Papres from Hahnemuhle, Epson, Moab, Ilford, and some others, all offer great quality. So when people ask what paper I use for the gallery’s exhibitions, they are suprised to learn I use one of the least expensive matte papers, Epson Enhanced Matte. Just proves my point that it’s not the paper, it’s the printmaker. Please call or email me.
